The Arno Babajanyan Musical-Pedagogical State College, established on October 1, 1967, is one of the leading establishments of the Armenian Republic in the sphere of middle professional musical education.
The College is named after one of the shining representatives of the 20th century’s composers, Arno Babajanyan.
Within more than 50 years, the College has given professional education to over 5000 young individuals.
On its 50th anniversary, the College was awarded with the "Gold Medal" - the highest award of the Ministry of Education and Science.
Some of the best graduates are contemporary distinguished promoters, RA popular and honored artists, laureates of international and republican competitions, honored art workers and award winners. World famous opera singers Gegham Grigoryan and Emma Papikyan, pianists Ashot Khachatryan, Julieta Vardanyan, violinists Anna Haurutyunyan, Lusine Aghababyan, composers Ashot Babayan, Stepan Babatorosyan, conductor Ruben Asatryan as well as pop singers Inga and Anush Arshakyans, duduk players Kamo Seyranyan, Mkrtich Karapetyan, folk singers Papin Poghosyan, Susanna Safaryan , Manik Grigoryan etc.
Today there are various musical ensembles in the College such as chamber orchestra, brass band, the orchestra of folk instruments, student chorus and studio of musical-theater.
College`s students continue to win prizes and represent the College at different republican and international festivals and competitions, perform at the best concert halls of the city, and participate in charitable concerts.
From 1996 with the efforts of RA Ministry of Education and Science and College, it has organized the “Arno Babajanyan Republic Competition of Young Pianists” for six times.
In 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 the same organizers implement “Arno Babajanyan International Competition-Festival for Junior and Young Pianists”.
The Honorary president of six republican and the 1st International Competition-Festival was People’s Artist of USSR, composer Edvard Mirzoyan.
Most of the competition laureates have won international awards and three of them, Arus Adjemian, Lilit Grigoryan and Zhora sargsyan are also the winners of the RA President Youth Prize.
Arno Babajanyan International Competition-Festival for Junior and Young Pianists has already become a tradition.
Approximately 400 pianists from 10 countries - Armenia, Artsakh, Russia, France, Australia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Iran, Syria and China participated in four international competitions.
The judges consisted of famous music teachers from Latvia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Armenia.
In 2019 more than 100 junior and young pianists have applied for participation in the V jubilee competition-festival, the geography of the competition has been expanded.
The competition-festival brings together a great number of lovers of outstanding composer`s piano music, which is the best guarantee of the everlasting life of Babajanyan`s bright music art.
